2003 LITA/Library Hi Tech Award winner announced
Roy Tennant has been named the winner of the 2003 LITA/Library Hi Tech award for Outstanding Communication in Library and Information Technology. The award is sponsored by Emerald Press and the Library and Information Technology Association (LITA), a division of the American Library Association.
The award recognizes outstanding achievement in communicating to educate practitioners within the library field of library and information technology. It consists of $1,000 and a certificate of merit.
Roy Tennant has been involved in the training of people in library technologies, particularly the Internet, for many years. Tennant has numerous articles and presentations to his credit, topics include digital libraries, the Internet, and the effective use of technology in libraries he is also a frequent speaker on these topics. Since 1997, he has written a column in Library Journal on digital libraries. He has also published books on HTML, XML, and one of the first ten written about the Internet. He created and managed the Berkeley Digital Library SunSite, manages the Web4Lib and SWISH-E electronic discussions, and created, contributes, and manages the current awareness publication Current Cites. He is currently the manager for eScholarship Web & Services Design with the California Digital Library at the University of California, Oakland.
The award will be presented at the LITA President’s Program on Monday, June 23, 2003 at the joint American Library Association/Canadian Library Association Annual Conference in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
