2004 LITA/Library Hi Tech Award winner announced
Eric Lease Morgan has been named the winner of the 2004 LITA/Library Hi Tech award for Outstanding Communication in Library and Information Technology. The award is sponsored by Emerald and the Library and Information Technology Association (LITA), a division of the American Library Association.
The award recognizes outstanding achievement in communicating to educate practitioners within the library field of library and information technology. It consists of $1,000 and a certificate of merit.
Eric Lease Morgan has been singing the praises of open source solutions for libraries and giving away his software for more years than the term has been in use. Morgan has numerous articles, book chapters, and presentations to his credit, with topics includingopen source software, the Open Archives Initiative, portals, and digital information in libraries. He has also led numerous preconferences and workshops on these topics. Morgan’s information systems and projects include the Alex Catalogue of Electronic Texts, Quick Response Collection, MyLibrary, and Mr. Serials Process/Index Morganagus. Morgan serves as a current trend-spotter for LITA’s Top Technology Trends series and has been recognized for his contributions to the profession by American Libraries, Lisnews.com, Bowker/Ulrich, and Library Journal. He is currently the Head of the Digital Access and Information Architecture Department at the University Libraries of Notre Dame.
The award will be presented at the LITA President’s Program on Monday, June 28, 2004 at the American Library Association Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida .
