Head, Library Systems and Technical Services, Rowan University, Glassboro, NJ
DESCRIPTION: Rowan University Libraries seek an experienced leader for the newly revised position of Head, Library Systems and Technical Services. This newly merged department includes library systems, networks, Web infrastructure, acquisitions, electronic resources and serials, metadata and authority control,and materials processing.
The library maintains a Voyager ILS.Reporting to the Dean of Library Services, the Head, LSTS
- Oversees and provides leadership in the maintenance of the library's Voyager integrated Library System.
- Participates with the Dean in building an environment of shared governance to ensure the highest level of service delivery the library's various customers.
- Oversees programming staff in the maintenance and development of the library's systems modules and associated applications, including the Website, a Drupal-based content management system, a VuFind Information portal, EZ-Proxy, an open URL link resolver and other applications such as EZ-Borrow and Rapid Inter-library loan application.
- Oversees cataloging/metadata/authority.
- Acts as the primary technical liaison to the University's Information Resources Department.
- Oversees a combined department of approximately ten professional and support staff members and coordinates library technical services and systems activities.
- Sets annual departmental objectives.
- Participates in Library and campus committee work.
Takes a leadership role and represents the library in regional and national professional organizations.
QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association or a foreign equivalent. Additional graduate degree and evidence of scholarship strongly desired.
- Minimum 5 years experience in the management of a complex integrated information system, preferably Voyager.
- Minimum five years experience in technical services, including acquisitions, cataloging, processing or descriptive metadata services.
- Knowledge of metadata standards, and tools.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Unix operating systems and knowledge of Oracle. Demonstrated experience in the successful supervision of staff, in an academic environment with collective agreements preferred.
- Experience with licensed e-content packages and working with content providers, approval plans and shelf-ready processes.
- An ability to work set priorities and to work, both independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent analytical skills, time management skills, oral and written communication skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Experience in grant development desirable. Record of professional activities.
- Capacity to perform in a rapidly changing environment. Commitment to open source and open access tools.
