Job Summary
Provides complex professional support in development, installation, and maintenance of a computer-based archival preservation system; will be in a supportive and creative role; works with data in the form of manipulation, processing, conversion, abstractions, and modeling, specifically within relational database systems; participation and coordination with diverse team of archivists, information technologists, and stakeholders; will be responsible for developing creative, technical, functioning, aesthetically pleasing solutions given a range of requirements.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree in an information technology related field; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in information technology, including design and construction of Web-based applications using Java platform; experience in user interface design, Web site creation (HTML, XML), programming in Java, C, and C+++, Oracle database design, and server-based batch and background processes; or an equivalent; combination of education and experience.
Applicant must be prepared to provide examples of past work that pass accepted community standards.
Desired Qualifications
Good communication skills; experience in a library or archives environment; an understanding of or a desire to learn about archival practices, Archivists Toolkit and iRODS (integrated Rule-Oriented Data System); familiarity with any or all of the; following: Windows, Unix, Linux, DSpace, Fedora, and Mac (OS X) environments; knowledge of integration of multiple disconnected, heterogeneous systems; ability to work directly with customers; accessible interface design skills; familiarity; with client/server interaction and transaction handling; knowledgeable on data mining and information retrieval; ability to work independently and with others in a professional manner.

Primary Duties:

Goals, policies and procedures. Develops short and long-range planning goals that lead to the recognition of the library as a premier source for information about contemporary craft. Develops and recommends library policies. Develops and implements procedures and plans.

Catalog. Oversees, monitors, and modifies if necessary the cataloging of new books and exhibition catalogs into OCLC, and into the library’s
online catalog. -
Databases. Develops and/or modifies library databases so that they provide the information the library staff and patrons need to answer
reference queries efficiently and accurately. -
Reference and patron assistance. Responds to reference questions and requests and assists patrons as needed.

Acquisitions. Evaluates and selects monographs, exhibition catalogs, serials, non-print and electronic media with the assistance of Council
staff members. -
Archives. Assesses the current archival holdings. Develops and implements a plan for the organization, description, maintenance and preservation of the council’s archives.

Files. Develops and maintains craft artist, pamphlet and other files.
-
Serials. Maintains the vendor relationship with EBSCO, checks in new issues, and completes bi-annual binding projects.

Public relations. Expands awareness of the richness of the library’s collection with the general public, ACC members, and other organizations and libraries.
Secondary Duties:
-
Works with other program heads and the Executive Director to develop library policies and procedures for the Council.

Assists the Executive Director, program heads, and other staff in utilizing the library collection and the special skills of the library staff.
-
Assists with the continuing development and maintenance of the Council’s Web site and the library’s presence on it.
-
Performs other tasks as assigned or necessary.
Special Qualifications:
-
MLS or MLIS from ALA-accredited program.
-
Supervisory experience in specialized library setting. Experience in art/craft library collection is very desirable.
-
Cataloging experience with OCLC Client or web based WorldCat.
-
Strong reference skills in both print and electronic media.
-
Working knowledge of AACR2, LCSH, LC classification, and MARC.
-
Ability to work with databases, familiarity with InMagic system is ideal.
-
Knowledge of archive organization and preservation.
